Slip Resistance Testing

Slip resistance is an important consideration for aircraft flooring surfaces, helping provide secure footing for passengers and crew during normal aircraft operations. ACES performs slip resistance testing to evaluate the slip-resistant properties of aircraft flooring materials and support demonstration of compliance with 14 CFR § 25.793. Testing provides objective data that can be used to assess flooring performance and support the documentation required for applicable aircraft certification programs.

Slip resistance testing measures the slip-resistant properties of flooring materials intended for use aboard aircraft.

The evaluation provides objective test data that can be used to determine whether an aircraft flooring surface provides the required level of slip resistance for its intended application.

Slip resistance is an important consideration for aircraft flooring and walking surfaces where secure footing for passengers and crew is required during normal operation.

Applicable CFRs

Slip resistance evaluation can support aircraft projects involving new flooring materials, replacement flooring, interior modifications, and changes to existing aircraft walking surfaces.

Typical Applications

Cabin Flooring Evaluation of flooring materials used throughout passenger and crew areas of the aircraft.
Replacement Materials Testing can support evaluation of replacement flooring when an existing material or surface is changed.
Interior Modifications Slip resistance can be considered as part of aircraft interior modification and refurbishment programs.
Walking Surfaces Aircraft surfaces intended for passenger or crew foot traffic can be evaluated when slip resistance is a certification consideration.

Slip resistance testing can provide the data needed to support demonstration of compliance with 14 CFR § 25.793.

ACES can coordinate slip resistance testing with related engineering and certification activities when the flooring evaluation is part of a broader aircraft modification or interior certification program.

Testing requirements depend on the flooring material, installation, aircraft application, and certification basis for the project.
