Oil Burner (Fireblock) for Seat Cushions

The Oil Burner Test for seat cushions, or the Fireblock Test, evaluates the weight loss of seat cushion assemblies as well as the char lengths on the dress covers and/or the underlying foam. This test is used to show compliance with the requirements of 14 CFR §§ 25.853(c) & 29.853(b).

Seat cushions that require oil burner certification:

  • Back Cushions

  • Bottom Cushions

  • Head Rest Cushions

  • Footrests/Leg Rest Cushions

In addition to oil burner testing, the seat cushion materials are required to undergo 12 Second Vertical Testing to show compliance with 14 CFR §§ 25.853(a) and 29.853(a).
